October 13th -19th, 2024
This one-week creative residency program is focusing on the theme of “People, Imagination, and Systems” to solve Global Grand Challenges. This unique residency aims to bring together artists, sculptors, printmakers, ceramics artists, and craftsmen from diverse backgrounds to explore and respond to pressing global challenges through their creativity. The residency will be hosted at the Vedatya Institute, Haryana.
Theme: Reimagining Tomorrow – Design Inspiring Solutions to Global Grand Challenges
In today’s interconnected world, we face numerous complex challenges that impact the lives of people worldwide. These challenges range from climate change, social inequality, healthcare disparities, technological advancements, migration, and much more. This creative residency seeks to explore how creativity can contribute to addressing these grand challenges and promoting meaningful change.
The creative residency program’s primary objectives are as follows:
Gopal Namjoshi is a muralist, artist, and installation designer known for his solo exhibitions in major Indian cities and participation in curated group shows. His works are held in prestigious collections in India and abroad, and he is recognized for his teaching and expertise in arts, particularly focusing on Yantra and Tantra themes. He draws inspiration from Rajasthan’s tribal and rural arts, which he has extensively researched and studied.
Mr. S.M. Kulkarni, a renowned designer and educator, has carved a niche in the world of design with his
expertise in craft and industrial design. With a strong academic foundation from Sir J.J. School of Art
and NID Ahmedabad, he has contributed significantly to the Indian design landscape through his extensive
work and teaching career.
Mr. Chandrashekhar Bheda is a prolific textiles and handicrafts designer with over 36 years of experience, blending traditional and high-tech craft techniques to create marketable products. He has led design projects for both commercial and developmental organizations, while also serving as a lecturer, jury member, and curator for numerous institutions and exhibitions globally.
Ms. Shalini Bansal, co-founder of Museums22 and HopOn India, brings 25 years of design expertise to revolutionize the way we experience museums, heritage, and culture through technology and user-centric design. An NID Ahmedabad alumnus, she collaborates with museums across India and shares her knowledge as a design educator, shaping future designers.
Dr. Promil Pande is an author, academician, and designer with over 30 years of experience in cultural specificity in textile and craft practices. She holds multiple advanced degrees, and as the co-founder of The Sidhast Foundation, she works to preserve and evolve India’s rich craft traditions through her role as Executive Director.
Prof. Suresh Kumar Achari is a Delhi-based visual artist known for his illustrations and character design. He acquired BFA degree from Delhi college of Art and has worked with major publications and designed stamps for the Indian Postal Department, drawing inspiration from mythology, wildlife, and human anatomy.
Ms. Shalina Vichitra is an artist whose works explore the concept of ‘belonging’ and the dynamic relationship between human habitation and the natural world through cartography and spatial inquiry. With a BFA and MFA from the College of Art, New Delhi, she has exhibited her art in solo and group shows, both in India and internationally, addressing personal and collective understandings of space and memory.
Dr. Ritesh Ranjan is an Art Historian, Curator, and Academician, currently heading the Jagran School of Design at JLU, Bhopal. With a Ph.D. in Art History and a focus on curatorial practices, his work spans Art/Design policies, cultural theories, and postcolonial discourses in Indian art and design. He has contributed to numerous exhibitions, seminars, and publications, and has authored or edited several books and research papers. Passionate about innovative education, he teaches Art/Design History and Cultural Studies, aiming to reshape pedagogy in the field.
Through this one-week creative residency, we aim to harness the power of art to stimulate dialogue, inspire action, and contribute to addressing global grand challenges. By bringing together talented artists and professionals from various fields, we hope to foster innovative solutions and create a meaningful impact on a local and global level.

Are you ready to showcase your talents and compete for exciting awards? This October, Vedatya Institute invites you to Muqabla 2024—a unique platform where school students can express their creativity and skills in various professional areas. Here’s your chance to shine in the fields of hospitality, culinary arts, business, and design.

Muqabla 2024 offers a diverse range of competitions tailored for your interests:
i. Budding Chef Competition
The Budding Chef Competition 2024 theme is “Reviving Culinary Heritage of India”. Therefore the participants have to prepare a traditional Indian dish that is not very commonly seen or is lost with time or a nostalgic dish that will take us back in time.
Vedatya has nearly four acres of fruit and vegetable farms dedicated to serving fresh, healthy, and sustainable produce. The farming initiative provides a platform to engage our students with concepts like farm-to-fork and organic sustainability in culinary arts.
The Chef Competition finds an interesting setting at Vedatya, given the above-mentioned differentiators, enabling participants to simultaneously engage and learn as they showcase their talent. It is indeed a fantastic opportunity for all the students to demonstrate their skills, creativity, and passion for a potential culinary / hospitality pathway.
Participants will compete in teams of two each and the participants need to bring ingredients on their own; however, basic ingredients will be provided by the institute if required.
ii. “The Joy of Draping” – Innovative Body Adornment Through Draping of Cloth
Uncut cloth is a wonderful way to adorn our bodies. From Saris and Sarongs to Greek Gods and Goddesses, uncut cloth draped over our bodies have been a way to express ourselves and our social stature for centuries. Draping is a wonder- fully creative way to express moods and feelings and gives tremendous flexibility for achieving varied results.
In this competition, participants will bring their own uncut cloth in the form of saris, yardage, turbans, dhoties, bedsheets, or any other long-form cloth and attempt to express their concept of adornment through draping. They will be allowed to use pins, hooks, or other means to hold the cloth together and create the desired effect. The focus will be on innovative ways of draping and will be supported by a story on the character surrounding the design. The contest will be judged by an expert from the fashion world and will be done through a ramp walk and show.
Participants will compete in the form of teams of three to five students each ideally, but a minimum size of three team members are required to participate in this competition.
iii. “Ad-Mad Show“- Where Creativity Meets Madness
AD MAD SHOW is an ‘Advertisement Making Competition’ School students to showcase their creativity in marketing products and services. Its objective is to acquaint the students with promotional strategies in marketing through advertisements. It consists of humorous, conceptual ad presentations by the students.
Students will prepare and act out advertisement scripts and ideas relevant for different sectors including FMCG products, services, automobiles, culture, heritage and social awareness etc. All the teams will be given a time frame to showcase their talent. The students would be required to be in a team size of 2 to 4.
Each team will get a ‘client brief’ in real time through a draw of lots and will need to develop an advertising pitch realtime.
iv. Pitch your dream Hospitality start-up idea
The participants will need to build a basic business plan around a dream venture focused on a hospitality product/ser- vice. The plan will be expected to demonstrate feasibility and include aspects of marketing strategies, and financial forecasting for profitability. This competition is a group based activity with minimum 2 to maximum 4 participants per team. The pitch will be judged by industry experts/entrepreneurs.
The competition will have 2 stages.
Stage 1: This will be an elimination round. The teams will be given a window of 5 minutes in which they have to pitch their hospitality startup idea. Those teams who are selected will go through the next stage. This is what contestants will come prepared with, ready to present.
Stage 2: Top 10 teams will make it to this final round. The team’s will have an hour to use feedback given in the 1st round to quickly revise, adapt their pitch and get ready for a final showdown.The timings for the presentation in the final round will be a 7 minute window and there will be 3 minutes of question answer session.
v. Be a ‘Change Maker’ – make Reels that are the Real Deal
The competition invites students to showcase their creativity and storytelling skills through digital media. Participants will create engaging reels in real time that capture service moments or Muqabla event related content around the campus. The digital content should have a message that contesting teams want to share. These reels will be shared on Instagram, the winning team will be determined based on the quality of their content and the engagement it receives, including likes and shares. Students will participate in teams of two and be given 2 hours to make and edit their reel and 10 minutes for the presentation.
NOTE: More details on the competition will be shared separately with registered contestants closer to the date.
No registration fees for the students, It is complementary in nature.
