Programme in Hospitality  Management and Leadership | PHML

Specialization in hospitality management and leadership

3 year full-time program (including 6 month internship with an option for international location) | Degree awarded by IGNOU

About the Course

The goal of the programme is to enable students to become entrepreneurial leaders and managers who can transform the hospitality organisations of the future. Students learn the difference between leadership and management and the relationship between the two in the hospitality industry.

To be successful in hospitality, one must be innovative and forward-thinking. The programme teaches students how to think strategically and understand how to manage employees and hospitality resources effectively. Students undertake a series of projects, learning how to devise, develop and successfully implement an array of hospitality events.

From the very start of the course one learns how to be a manager, exploring the key issues and foundations of the hospitality industry. The learning will take place at the Vedatya Campus, which has cutting-edge facilities, meeting rooms, social learning spaces and a training kitchen and restaurant to allow students to gain work-related, hands-on experience.

The students go on to develop their leadership abilities by guiding groups of other students as they oversee a hospitality concept from its first stages to its implementation in the restaurant.

Students also spend time working in the hospitality industry, gaining the practical skills one need to be a successful leader in the sector. We have a record of placing students both in India and abroad in hospitality chains like InterContinental Hotels Group, Carlson Rezidor, ITC, Taj Group etc.

Upon completion of the programme, students develop the vital skills needed to be successful in the global hospitality industry.

*Student will additionally be enrolled on BA in Tourism Studies degree programme with IGNOU.

2011 Graduate | General Manager | Holiday Inn Express, Chennai

I am an Alumni of the 2011 SHTM batch and already striving to become one of the youngest General Manager at IHG. A lot of it has to do with Vedatya and the various faculty members who guided me in the most crucial years. The curriculum at the institute which is research based is clearly the USP for me. I find the curriculum very helpful that encourages logical thinking & creates a strategic bent of mind which is quintessential for a student aspiring to be a leader in the professional world. Add to it, practical experience in the 1st year, Internship in the 2nd year, management modules and the thoughtful industry interface in the last 2 years and you have a winner.
